July 11-17th is Operation Safe Driver Week. Law enforcement will be on the look out for drivers engaging in risky behavior in or around both commercial & personal motor vehicles. Speeding will be the main priority this year after an uptick in deaths in 2020 despite less travel due to the pandemic. The fatality rate in 2020 had a 24% increase over that of 2019, resulting in the highest death rate increase over the last 96 years! Law enforcement will also be targeting other dangerous habits like reckless or distracted driving, following too closely, improper lane change, not obeying traffic lights & stop signs, lack of seatbelt use, & impaired driving due to drugs or alcohol.
Make sure you're obeying the speed limit, wearing your seatbelt, & driving safely! Otherwise you may be on the other end of a traffic violation or citation, officers gave out over 71,000 warnings & citations during last years Operation Safe Driver Week.
